WEST V EAST TEAM AT TROON PORTLAND AND SCOTTISH SENIORS 2012

WEST V EAST  AT TROON PORTLAND
The West are very much looking forward to our annual match against the East for the Elise Duncan Trophy, to be played this year at Troon Portland on Wednesday, July 11th.  Each team consists of 9 players, and all 9 matches will be played off scratch.  Last year, played at Gullane, we were very close to bringing the Trophy to the West but unfortunately we were pipped at the post. This year we hope overcome the power of the East on home territory!  One thing we can be certain of, is that we will have a competitive, friendly match. What we can't be certain of is the weather conditions we will encounter! Hopefully with the arrival of the month of July we shall at last see some blue skies and a bit of warmth to contend with.

Team:
Suzanne Cadden  (Cardross)
Helen Faulds  (Douglas Park)
Jane Finnie  (Ladies Club Troon)
Alison Gemmill  (Kilmarnock Barassie)
Alex Glennie  (Kilmarnock Barassie)
May Hughes  (Lanark)
Pat Hutton  (Lanark)
Jennifer Mack  (Haggs Castle)
Janice Paterson  (Drumpellier)

SCOTTISH SENIORS 2012
The Scottish Seniors (Close) Amateur Championship is this year being played at Kemnay Golf Club situated west of Aberdeen, from July 3rd - 6th July.

Seven of the above team along with seven others, including your Captain and Vice-Captain, will all be taking part.  Monday 2nd July will be a practice day followed by two days of stroke play, the Scottish Senior Stroke Play Champion being the competitor with the lowest aggregate gross for the two rounds   From that stroke play championship, 16 players returning the lowest gross scores over the 36 holes will then qualify for the Match Play Championship to be played the following two days.

To all those taking part, play good and golf and have a fun week.  Hopefully some of the honours will be brought back to the West!

West Vets draw with Midland Vets to retain the Mid-West Trophy at Ranfurly Castle Golf Club

West Vets Team

Midland Vets Team

The West Vets (10 to 15 h'cap) team played the Midlands Vets team for The Mid West Trophy yesterday at Ranfurly Castle.  This is always a good day and all the matches were played in great spirit but as always were very competitive.
We all met for coffee and bacon rolls before the first pairing teed off at 11am.
There are seven singles matches played off scratch.  This match has been played for many years, but we now have a Trophy to play for which was donated by our current Secretary Sheila Shaw.  The first 4 years the Trophy was won by Midlands the next 2 years by the West and this year's match was tied at 3.5 matches each and as such, the West, as current holders of the Trophy, retain it for another year.  The course was in excellent condition and the weather was perfect. A good day was enjoyed by all.

RESULTS: (West Vets named first)

Carol Fell  beat  Moira Begbie  1 up
Enid Young  beat  Bev Brown  4&2
Sandra Gilchrist  half  with Janice Lang
Cathy Morton  lost  to Elma Leask  5&4
Anne Aitken  lost to Liz Fertacz  1 down
Maureen Cook  beat  Joyce Mulgrew  6&5
Rena Simpson  lost to  Rose Graham  6&4
